RESUME
Kara St. Cyr is an award-winning multimedia storyteller with experience in all aspects of the newsroom. Her expertise ranges from covering breaking news to creating long-form, documentary-style series for a broadcasting DMA of 1.3 million.
From 2016-2020, Kara was a multimedia journalist for an NBC affiliate in Louisiana. She reported on numerous special coverage events including the historic 2020 hurricane season in Louisiana and the eruption of cries for social justice following the death of George Floyd. Her duties included live, field reporting, and updating viewers through constant social media pushes. This fast-paced environment forced her to develop efficiency and good time management.
LPB/PBS was a different feel. Kara harnessed all her skills from previous reporting gigs to usher in a new wave of modern journalism. She’s produced and hosted two mini-doc series garnering more than 20,000 views on social media channels-more than LPB/PBS had seen in five years. After extensive research and months of interviews, one of her series was awarded an Emmy in 2022. LPB/PBS had not won an award in nearly 10 years.
Kara also anchors and produces a weekly news segment that provides analytical context for current policy on the national and local levels. She works collaboratively with staff to vet the story ideas of co-producers and takes on the role of managing editor in crises. She also contributes to PBS Newshour programming.
Kara strives to approach her work with compassion, humor, and curiosity. She firmly believes each story represents a person, a culture, and a dream. She hopes to bring true balance to the news industry through empathetic and honest journalism.
