IT WAS A DIFFERENT TIME
There is a dark period in America’s history where Black Americans were required to travel with the utmost caution. Without it, they could face humiliation, violence, or death. The Negro Motorist Green Book was developed by a Black postal worker named Victor Green. He commissioned other employees to track locations that were safe for African-Americans to travel.
I traveled to 10 Green Book locations in Louisiana while filming LPB’s Digital-first series, Safe Haven: Louisiana’s Green Book.
Finding old businesses in Louisiana and unlocking memories of each listing required months of extensive research and interviews. Sadly, only one location included in our show remained open.
Below is one of ten episodes. I was awarded an Emmy for my work on the series in 2022. .
